Compact Frame, Full Throttle Bass Output
If you are working with limited space but still want serious low-frequency impact, the Rockford Fosgate Punch P3SD4-8 shallow subwoofer is built to deliver exactly that balance. Its reduced-depth motor architecture lets it fit into tight enclosures and compact vehicle locations without losing punch or clarity. Even in a small footprint, it produces strong, controlled bass that feels tight and responsive, making it a perfect match for space-conscious car audio builds.
Wiring Freedom Built for Real System Tuning
This subwoofer gives you flexible control over your setup thanks to its dual 4-ohm voice coil design. You can wire it for 2-ohm performance when you want more output or go to 8-ohm for different amplifier matching strategies. That kind of versatility makes it easy to integrate into a wide range of systems without compromise. With CEA-2031 certified power handling, it is designed to stay consistent under real-world listening conditions, even when pushed hard for long periods.
Small Size Engineering With Big Bass Character
The P3SD4-8 uses expanded acoustic output technology with a VAST surround design that increases cone efficiency without increasing overall size. That means more bass output from an 8 inch shallow sub that is still easy to install in compact enclosures. It works well in both sealed setups for tight, accurate bass and ported designs for stronger output and deeper impact. Add in the FlexFit basket for easier alignment and the reinforced aluminum trim ring for stability and clean finishing, and you get a subwoofer that is small in size but serious in performance.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why does my P3SD4-8 sound underpowered with the factory amplifier?
Some owners have installed the P3SD4-8 as a factory-sub replacement and found the improvement smaller than expected because the OEM amplifier does not provide enough power. One Audi Q7 owner specifically reported better bass tone but planned to add an external amplifier for more output.
- • Why isn't my P3SD4-8 a direct fit in my factory subwoofer box?
Fitment depends on the vehicle and enclosure. Owners have reported that certain factory boxes require trimming tabs or other minor modifications, while others found the P3SD4-8 matched their factory location easily. Always compare the mounting pattern and cutout before installation.
- • How should I wire the dual 4-ohm voice coils?
The P3SD4-8 has dual 4-ohm voice coils, allowing wiring configurations that can produce a 2-ohm or 8-ohm final load. This has caused confusion for factory-system upgrades, with owners asking how to connect the four voice-coil terminals to their original amplifier.
- • Why does my new subwoofer still sound weak after installation?
Replacing the factory woofer alone may not provide a dramatic increase if the original amplifier is limiting power. One recent owner described the P3SD4-8 upgrade as only a slight improvement when powered by an OEM Bose amplifier.
- • Why is my P3SD4-8 rattling or buzzing at higher volume?
A rattling sound may come from surrounding trim, the enclosure, or mounting hardware rather than the subwoofer itself. One recent user initially suspected a defective P3S but found that nearby plastic trim could be responsible for the buzzing noise.
- • Will the P3SD4-8 fit where my factory 8-inch subwoofer was mounted?
It can be an excellent shallow replacement, but the answer depends on the specific vehicle. Owners have successfully used it in factory JBL, Bose, and other OEM enclosures, although some applications require small modifications to the mounting area.
- • Why does my P3SD4-8 have good bass but not enough overall volume?
The P3SD4-8 is rated at 150 watts RMS and 300 watts peak, with an 82 dB sensitivity rating. Users have reported strong, punchy bass in factory enclosures, but additional amplifier power may be necessary when higher output is desired.
- • Can I use the P3SD4-8 in a very small sealed enclosure?
Yes, it is designed for compact installations, but the enclosure still needs to fall within the manufacturer's recommended volume. The listed sealed enclosure range is approximately 0.20–0.70 cubic feet, while a ported application calls for about 0.75 cubic feet.
- • Why did I have to modify the factory mounting area even though this is a shallow subwoofer?
Shallow mounting depth solves the problem of limited rear clearance, but it does not guarantee that the basket, screw pattern, or trim will match every OEM enclosure. For example, an Audi Q7 owner reported needing to remove small positioning tabs before achieving a proper fit.
- • Is the P3SD4-8 a good choice for replacing a weak factory subwoofer?
For many owners, yes. Recent reviews describe it as an easy factory-box upgrade with noticeably stronger and punchier bass, while forum users have also reported that it preserves cargo space. The main limitation is that the final result depends heavily on the factory amplifier and enclosure.

Placed it in the stock JBL box on my TUndra and it fits fine. Really an easy installation. Sound is much way better than the stock sub, and it also hits harder. Its just 150 watts but its loud enough to make the sound inside your truck boomy.
